KB: How to transfer Domain from Godaddy to another registrar
If you like to transfer your domains from GoDaddy to another registrar follow these instructions. It is NOT necessary to call support (because they will do everything/anything to prevent you from doing any transfers!). And especially don't worry if your domain is going to expire next couple of days! Because if you call support they will insist that you have to renew your domain before doing the transfer so you don't lose it. It's NOT true, don't let them hold your domain hostage.
- Login to your GoDaddy account
- Go to "My Domains" page. DO NOT select the domain yet.
- You'll have to set two options "Lock" and "Privacy" to off.
- From the list of domains you should see the "Lock" option, ensure the domain is unlocked
- Toggle the (Domain Locked) ensure it's OFF (not locked).
- Click confirm on any scary/intimidating prompts.
- From the same page also Turn off Domain Privacy.
- You may need to select the domain with a check box and select "Protection Plans" and select the option "Downgrade Protection Plans"
- OR - select change Privacy option which ever is avail. and set NO privacy.
- Now - select the domain you want to transfer:
- Ensure domain contact info's are valid especially the Email address!
- Scroll down at the bottom of the page you should see "Transfer domain to another registrar or away from GodDaddy (far far away)"
- Then click "Confirm" with Transfer (don't let any intimidating buttons scare you!).
- Then click the button to see the "Authorization Code". This same code will be emailed to you.
- Now go back to the other registrar website (where you want to transfer the domain to) and use this authorization code to start the transfer.
- At this point you should have received an email from "Godaddy" with subject "We've received your domain transfer request." Now, all you need to do is wait 10 to 15min (that's right, minutes not days). Ignore any other emails from Godaddy where they say your transfer will take 5 to 7 days or longer, it's not true. Especially if your renewal is right around the corner.
- Go back to GoDaddy's site, select your domain and you should see "Transfers" button on the left panel. If it's not there, give it few more minutes. Then select the transfers from the left.
- Select "Transfer OUT" TAB. Check your domain from the list below and click "Approve Transfer" and you are home free
